Hello members,
After many years looking to all what happening around me in the little world of landscape photography I can say that from my point of view there is two type of landscape photographer.
There is the one who take photography to fix what they see and share this beautiful images and personnaly I make part of this part. And the other one more attracted by the challenge ti be the first one (in terme of pageviews, firne on google plus, friends on facebook). In this case we can talk about a sport and a championship which is every day running between those who think that a beautiful landscape images is an image taken at the other side of the world or because they risked their lives to go and shoot this image. It is I think a mistake. One of the better advice I receive from Marc Adamus is to take image not far from my house and try to develop my own photography with the place I know the best. It is why I don't travel, I take image at 300kms from my house and in place that people have already seen 1 million times but with originality and with the goal to provide a new artistic vision.
If we keep in mind that the main goal of photography is to share a moment, why do we should reserve this moment to a certain elite. No I think we must try as professionnal photographer to make those images seen by every body. It is why I have chosen one and a half year ago a distributor in france who make canvas print at very low cost. Around 10 euros for a big print on a very good quality canvas. By this mean my images are sold in france to a large public (consumer market) and definitely I don't earn a lot on this but I hope people wille share with me those moments and look with new eyes some places they already know and I think will start respecting more and more the nature.
Definitely, championship and adventure is not photography, it is a sport!
Making art is developing your eyes and find beauty every where
Phil
PS: in those days where I think I don't share the same world than a lot of landscape photographers
